Giving Way To Still

In Giving Way to Still, I have followed my internal compass giving way to my own sense of direction and timing. Iceland provided an open-air studio for me and a catalyst for a deeper investigation of solitude and self. I spent a good deal of my five weeks iceland3there taking solo road trips, exploring the wide open spaces of the island, collecting conversations and stories from the people I met. My paintings start with a connection I made somewhere on the island. It may be with the people I engaged in conversation, popular culture I experienced in the music and language, or the weather used as a metaphor for the physicality of the place.
