My painting, AINA, has found a wonderful new home in Edwards, CO! Thank you to Space Gallery for your assistance.
This work along with others from my Fresh series, was shown at Space Gallery during 2015 in a show titled, Beyond the Plane.
AINA (pronounced eye-nah) was inspired by my travel to Kauai and Maui, HI. While there I learned the true meaning of AINA, life, translated by my Hawaiian friends. Hawaii is a US state but rarely do tourists experience off the beaten tourist track places and meet locals who have great great grandparents that handed down Hawaiian tradition and culture through the family.
AINA as translated, represents the land, the language, the sea turtles, the air, the water, and so so much more. I love connecting with locals and this residency proved no exception. While on Maui where I had been invited for a teaching residency I met some incredibly generous people who shared so much about the island and its traditions and way of life they hold dear.
The new collectors of AINA are British and Hawaiian. They really connected with this painting on a level that for me, brought the painting to its final state of completion. Thank you Jan and Mark!
