reviews
Patricia Aaron/Raw and Real, highlights luscious encaustic paintings by prominent Colorado artist Patricia Aaron. though all three of the showcased artists at Space favor densely composed compositions, Aaron does the others one better by creating all-over abstractions that are atmospheric. Using scribbles, drips, and runs, she makes innumerable pictorial moves that she consolidates into the picture, over, under and around each other. Though the paintings have a neo-abstract-expressionist quality, Aaron has updated that by expressing a sense of depth, as though the viewer were looking into a dense fog or murky waters.
On the second floor are some experimental pieces in which Aaron has stacked panels to form paintings that are actually wall reliefs. One of these, "Le Soleil," a stack dominated by shades of yellow interrupted by bits of red and blue, has been acquired by the Kirkland Museum.

Dazzling Palettes Link Four Colorado Artists at the Arvada Center

Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities
Arvada, CO
2018
In the most formal rooms on the upper floor are the encaustic paintings by Aaron, who lives in Denver. These pieces have a magisterial character, owing both to the iconic quality of the limited palettes she often uses (though there are exceptions) and their quiet shimmer under the spotlights. This subtle luminance is a defining characteristic of Aaron’s oeuvre, since she builds up her paintings by applying layer upon layer of translucent coats of wax infused with pigment. Even in a show organized around the use of color, her skills as an accomplished colorist stand out.
"Seeing that gorgeous work of art everyday just makes us happy. I purposely change the way I am going through the house so that I can see it and it brings a smile to me every time. I never grow tired of looking at it—different angles, up close, far back, in the morning, midday, sunset…..we just love it."
-Lisa Z and Craig U. - repeat collectors (Corporate and Private)
“When I look at your work year-over-year, you continue to create increasingly more interesting work. That’s hard to do in any field. Pieces like Midnight River Roll and others in that same time period are extraordinary.”
–Herb and Anna Marie M. -Private collectors, Denver, CO
Thanks for your lovely note. Kirby and I are delighted to own Creamsicle. We looked at your recent catalogue and it was No. 1 for both of us. That never happens!
-Kirby and Jud B. – repeat Private collectors
Colorado Abstract PAINTINGS | SCULPTURE
Fresco Fine Art Publications. llc
Mary Voelz Chandler, 2009
Hers is pluralistic work - abstraction prodded by conceptualism. It catches a viewer off guard while turning painting, mark-making and sculpture into objects and installations that continue to surprise.
