Bonjour!
I had an incredible experience at my artist residency in Auvillar located in southwestern France. Auvillar is one of France's self proclaimed "Most Beautiful Villages in France".
Yes, I would absolutely agree. There is everything about it which fed my artistic spirit.
For three weeks I worked uninterrupted in my studio lit by constantly changing skies outside. VCCA Moulin a Nef is located along the Garonne River in the Port.
During the early mornings and late afternoons I took advantage of finding my way with hiking with locals, walking the village and also biking using my residency red bike. Historical monuments, churches, and fortified 12th Century walls at every turn. The pilgrims walking by outside the studio windows who were trekking the Santiago de Compostela were always happy to spend a few minutes sharing their adventures.
For me meeting the other resident artists and villagers was a highlight as well as the fun of simple gatherings of sharing wine, and cheese. Truly simple pleasures. I didn't miss having a car.
I worked with layering organza fabrics which are studies for future paintings I would do upon my return to Denver. Working with organza is something I have wanted to return to and I felt this would be the perfect opportunity.
On my return trip to Denver I took a week long detour to Iceland and visited with friends and took in an adventure at a hot springs which was a little detour but totally worth the morning to soak and then plunge into the Whale Fjord.
My Facebook and Instagram accounts have additional photos I shared.
