Having been the recipient of various artist fellowships in the past I have a fairly good idea of what to pack for several weeks to a month’s stay. This time my destination is Iceland. Little bit of a change up.
I am departing for my residency in Reykjavik soon and still have some items to purchase and find. These include rain pants, heavy duty windbreaker, find my mudders in the garage, make copies of my passport and other important papers to be left at home, airline tickets ( I have purchased ..) and get medical insurance in order. I also will be renting a vehicle for part of the time and need to renew my International Drivers license. These as well as the usual late winter type clothing, hiking boots and swim suits for the visits to the thermally infused hotpots are going to be accompanying me.
As for my bag to carry art supplies this is also a change up. In the past if I drive my own vehicle I can pack it like crazy or even mail ahead supplies. This time I am going to be painting on paper and canvas which can be rolled and tubed. I am planning on checking a suitcase and hope to keep it at 50 lbs. There are art supplies stores in Reykjavik for liquids that I will need. I will have a carry on backpack for day trips and extra sunglasses. And I hear there is a great deal of wind so hats. The list continue to grow.
I am excited about this great adventure and have been reading all the books I can find, studying maps and planning a course to see and experience the beauty of Iceland. If you have visited and have any tips email me@ pat.aaron52@gmail.com
Stay tuned!
